Naan Bread

This is a great bread for any use including the BBQ. Can also be used as a pizza base.
After the dough has risen it can also be frozen and thawed out for an impressive BBQ treat.

Method

Sift together the first measure of flour plus the baking powder and salt. Stir the yeast into the warm milk and add the sugar. Allow to prove for about 10 minutes and add the vege oil, yoghurt and eggs. Mix into the dough mixture with a wooden spoon.

Tip the dough onto the bench and knead until smooth and satiny adding the second measure of flour as required. Around 10 mins of kneading.

Oil the inside of a large bowl. Form the dough into a ball and roll around inside the bowl until coated. Cover with plastic cling film and leave in a warm place for around an hour or until doubled in size.

Divide the dough into 12-16 pieces and roll out, any shape you like, to a thickness of about 1 cm.

Brush each piece with olive oil and spirinkle with roack salt.
Cook for about 3-4 minutes on a hot BBQ grill, pizza stone or hot plate. Also in a hot oven if cooking indoors.

  • 8 cups of high-grade flour
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 3 teaspoons of salt
  • 16 gms of yeast or 2 tablespoons of Sure Bake yeast powder
  • 1 & 1/4 cups of trim milk, heated to luke warm
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 & 1/4 cups of low fat yogurt
  • 4 tablepoons vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup flour
  • olive oil for coating
  • rock salt
