Event: Dietary Guidelines Debate, Are they the best recipe for our health?

The draft Dietary Guidelines (and the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating) were released for comment mid-December by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). Submissions are due by Wednesday 29th February 2012, 5:00pm (AEST).

What exactly are these 'food rules'? ● Why do we need them? ● Are they the best recipe for health? ● Who makes them? ● What are they based on? ● Who pays attention to them? ● What are the sticking points with the new draft Guidelines?

Get up to speed on what's in (and what's out) in the latest Dietary Guidelines and enjoy a lively debate on the progress and lost opportunities they represent with AAFP nutrition experts Catherine Saxelby (chair), Bill Shrapnel (science or dogma?), Nicole Senior (the fats of the matter) and Dr Alan Barclay (those contentious carbs). There will be plenty of time for you to have your say and whether, as a food professional, you think government food rules have a place in our kitchens?
