The 7 Foods Experts Won’t Eat by Vivianne Elliott

Over the past couple of months an article entitled ‘The 7 Foods Experts Won’t Eat’ has been doing the circuit. The article lists 7 common foods that so-called experts would not eat and why. Here is the list:
1. Genetically Modified Foods (GMO)
2. Canned Tomatoes
3. Corn-Fed Beef
4. Microwave Popcorn
5. Farmed Salmon
6. Milk Produced with Artificial Hormones
7. Conventional Apples
Although I don’t disagree with the reasons for these foods being excluded from our diets, I do become frustrated with the limited information that this and other articles provide. For those of you who do not wish to occupy their spare hours researching nutritional options, an article like this leads us up yet another confusing path.
Many clients come to see me because they are bewildered with the information presented to them and have no idea where to start when it comes to good balanced nutrition. They often have digestive complaints and are tired and uncomfortable.
So, will cutting out these 7 foods make them feel better? If that is the only thing they do, then probably not. Here is my list of foods that I prefer not to eat:
1. Soft Drinks – especially the diet variety
2. Sports Drinks
3. Energy Drinks
4. Processed Meats, e.g. Ham, Salami, Hot Dogs
5. Most Fast Foods
6. Highly Processed Foods, e.g. 2-minute noodles, rices etc.
7. Diet foods, e.g. low-fat foods
There will be times that you (and I) will eat foods from the above lists. It is doubtful that you will die instantly. However, if the majority of your nutrition comes from these sources, you will be feeling unwell, uncomfortable and probably not firing on all four cylinders.
