More healthy sandwich alternatives

A lunch box with healthy and nutritionally balanced foods is essential to improve your kid’s concentration at school, support their growth and development, prevent obesity and Type II diabetes, and provide sufficient energy for their physical activity.

Sandwiches are very quick and easy to put in your kid’s lunch box but there are also other alternatives:

• Grilled chicken salad in mountain bread
Mountain bread is a low GI carbohydrate which mean energy is release to the blood stream slower therefore you feel fuller for a longer period of time. Chicken is a great source of protein which supports children’s growth

• Thai inspired beef with vermicelli noodle
This is a very popular dish in Asia, grill beef in Thai dressing (fish sauce, lemon, sugar, coriander) toss with cucumber, tomato, grated carrot and cooked vermicelli noodle

• Mexican burrito
Red kidney bean, mince beef and low fat cheese wrap in whole meal burrito wraps, great left over lunch idea

• Potato/sweet potato salads
Mixing beetroots, mixed salad leaves, walnut, feta cheese with cooked potato in vinaigrette dressing. Potatoes from the fridge has a lower GI then steaming hot potatoes.

Rice paper rolls
Wrap chicken or beef, grated carrot, cucumber and vermicelli noodle in rice paper.

Don’t forget always have a piece of fruit with your kid’s lunches and use water as their main beverage!
