DineSmart To Help Those In Need

In Australia we love the glitz and glamour of dining out and whether it’s having a great night out with a group of friends, or getting to know that special someone, we can’t get enough of the idea of someone else cooking for us.

We relish the thought of consuming delicious morsels, prepared by the celebrities of the business – the chefs. We love trying their creations, which sometimes seem like artworks on a plate, and experiencing the best quality that money can buy.

Now although we like to treat ourselves from time-to-time, we are a generous nation. We generally like to support and give back to those who don’t have what we do.

Guess what? A brilliant initiative called DineSmart is allowing us to put together these two passions.

DineSmart is a program created by charity group StreetSmart which sees Australia’s leading restaurants adding two dollars to the total of every bill, which will then be donated towards helping the homeless within communities across the nation. It runs from the 14th of November to the 24th of December.

According to Australian Director Adam Robinson, it “is a simple idea that gives us all the opportunity to help”. This ensures that anyone can easily participate within the campaign.

Since 2003, the non-for-profit organization has raised over $1.6 million for organizations such as the Western Housing for Youth, Manly Women’s Shelter and The Wayside Chapel. This year they are looking to raise even more.

So how can you get involved? Simply jump onto the restaurant locator page at www.streetsmartaustralia.org/findrestaurant and look for your favourite restaurant.

Some of the popular joints include Bavarian Bier Cafe and China Doll in Sydney, and Ambrosia and Punch Lane in Melbourne. But there are over 150 from all over the country. Then round up the troops and head over for a great time out, knowing that you are helping those who need it most.
