Roald Dahl's Revolting Recipes

Roald Dahl's Revolting Recipes

Did you ever wish you had won a golden ticket? The chance to drink from the chocolate lake in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Would you be brave enough to try a worm, or George’s Marvellous Medicine? As a child, I knew I would!

I was introduced to the zany tales of Roald Dahl by my aunty, who sent me a marvellous anthology of his books. I would sit for hours, buried in the pages, reading a range of favourites like The Witches, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and of course the delicious Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The one thing that was incredible about Dahl’s stories was the amazing foods that were in his stories. From the humungous chocolate cake devoured by ‘Bruce’ in Matilda, to the bizarre ‘Snozzcumbers’ in The BFG.

Luckily for us, Dahl’s beloved wife Felicity created another last book filled with these delectable, and thankfully edible, treats. Roald Dahl’s Revolting Recipes is a cook-book aimed at getting kids, and kids at heart, into the kitchen to cook up feasts based on much-loved tales. All the above dishes and more have been included, as well a one Very Enormous Crocodile centrepiece for the table.

The recipes are fun and easy to follow with simple measurements to ensure the cooking is a breeze. Children will laugh at the comical illustrations by none other than Quentin Blake and the book will keep them entertained for hours.

For the new generation of kids, who spend hours glued to television or video game consoles, it might prove a useful way of developing an interest in reading about the magical worlds from which the recipes are derived.

As for me, I will be spending the next few days flipping through the little treasure trying my hand at all the goodies inside.

Happy cooking!
