Five Reasons Why You Should Get to The Flinders Hotel

Just off Oxford Street, tucked away past the servo on Flinders Street sits The Flinders Hotel, a well kept secret and an institution to wild things and young professionals alike. Pub downstairs, (Duke) bistro upstairs, this place oozes cool. Refurbished last year by Bang Gang DJs Gas Da Hoodrat and Doom and Ksubi Brand Manager Paul Wilson, it’s known for its really cheap food and drinks, inventive cocktails and rad tunes.
So here are five reasons why you should head to The Flinders or as it’s known in my circle of friends Flinnies and/or Flinnos.
Cheap drinks
And I mean seriously cheap. I don’t want to be advocating alcohol abuse here but if you want a big night out where the Visa won’t get a smashing hall arse to Flinders asap. Where else can you buy $4 beers, $5 spirits and $10 cocktails all night AND listen to actually good music? No. Where.
Snack Food
Let’s face it, drinking gives you an appetite. And after downing about 4 beers and a cocktail a girl needs to eat and not just any food but the rich, hearty food that reminds you of home. The more fried the better. Fried chicken, pork belly pancakes, old fashioned jaffles, yes they are all on the menu and are definitely at cheapo pub prices.
Exposed brick
The décor in this place is awesome. It’s modelled on an American ‘dive bar’ so like duh. The low lighting, huge old wrap-around bar in the front, the exposed brick (that also makes the bathroom entry quite confusing while you’re tipsy) it all equals to a grungy, laidback chic that feels more comfy, less pretentious.
Hippies From Hell
It’s held every Thursday night. This is the only place you can go mid-week and dance to 70s music in Sydney that isn’t your Uncle’s garage. And it’s way less creepy than hanging with your Uncle’s Hendrix revival band in said garage.
Open Late
Flinders is open Tuesday to Sunday and shuts at 3am most days. On Fridays and Saturdays however, you can stay and party till 5am. There’s always such great bands and DJs playing that you often get stuck to closing time!
